General Entry Regulations
Programme
The programme comprises features, documentaries, shorts and animations organized into the following sections:
1. Except Hong Kong productions, films must not have been shown in Hong Kong prior to the Festival screenings.
2. English subtitles are required for non-English language films.

The HKIFF is responsible for the insurance of prints or screening copies from the moment they are received by the HKIFF to the moment they are collected by the Forwarding Agent.
Films presented by the HKIFF must arrive at Hong Kong for print checks and press previews at least one month before screening.
Once arrived at the HKIFF office, the screening copies will not be returned or forwarded until the respective HKIFF screenings of the film are over.
Films will be returned within two weeks after the closing of the 42nd HKIFF to the airport of destination. The consignee will be notified of the shipping details.
Prints and airway bills should be sent directly to the HKIFF Society Office.

The entrant warrants that he/she owns the entire copyright of the film and/or has the right to authorize the public screening of the film.
The entrant hereby authorizes the HKIFF to screen the film in public during the period of the 42nd HKIFF. The HKIFF is obliged not to hold any public screening of any film entries other than the three screenings allowed by international regulations.
The entrant authorizes the HKIFF to make use of all publicity materials and stills of the film including, without limitation, for publicity, promotion purposes of the 42nd HKIFF and the HKIFF Society.
All the personal data and other information requested in the Entry Form herein are used to enable the HKIFF to consider this application only and will be subject to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, Cap. 486.
The entrant agrees with the HKIFF and undertakes that he/she will at all times keep the HKIFF fully and effectively indemnified in respect of all actions, proceedings, claims, demands, liabilities and expenses whatsoever may be made, brought against, suffered or incurred by the HKIFF in consequence of any breach by the entrant on the ground that any film presented by the entrant pursuant to the 42nd HKIFF General Entry Regulations is an infringement of any intellectual property rights of any person or is defamatory or on any other grounds whatsoever.
The Entrant’s agreement with the HKIFF by signing the Entry Form shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

If the Office of Film, Newspaper and Article Administration (OFNAA) recommends HKIFF to make cuts in a film or in its subtitles, such changes will be made only with the agreement of the producer/filmmaker.
The HKIFF will apply for proper license for 42nd HKIFF.
First-features (and second- or third-features, according to the final programme selection) by directors of Asian countries are eligible for the FIPRESCI Prize.
Entry of films for the 42nd HKIFF implies acceptance of these Regulations. The HKIFF reserves the right to regulate cases not circumscribed by these Regulations. In situations where all the aforementioned regulations are not applicable, the final decision shall rest with the HKIFF.
Rights
Bank charges and online payment service charges, if any, will be borne by the entrants.
Please note that some credit cards may need to be verified in order to complete the transactions. For details, please kindly contact your card-issuing institution.
Please note your film title must be added at the Reference/Remarks column when using telegraphic transfer. A copy of the remittance advice should be sent to the HKIFF Society office or entries@hkiff.org.hk for confirmation.
To be eligible for a fee waiver, the director of the film must be a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card holder. A copy of the HKID card of the director should be sent to the HKIFF Society office or entries@hkiff.org.hk for verification.

The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is one of Asia’s most reputable platforms for filmmakers, film professionals and filmgoers from all over the world to launch new work and experience outstanding films. As a competitive event, the HKIFF serves as a platform for international film exchange, to promote better understanding between global cultures, and to discover new talents from around the world.

Submit a completed entry form either at withoutabox or by post (download the entry form), and send all of the required entry materials below to the HKIFF Society office before the entry deadlines.

*a DVD screener or a Vimeo online screener (The minimum requirement is picture-locked with temporary sound and music. Entrants may send in only one version).
All DVD screeners should be labeled with the film title and confirmation reference number (for online submission only).
The Vimeo link should remain active and accessible until end of February 2018. Details for your online screener should be filled out in the entry form. Please prepare this link in advance of completing your entry form.

It is Entrant’s sole responsibility to ensure ALL REQUIRED ENTRY MATERIALS arrive at the HKIFF Society office before the deadline. The HKIFF reserves the right to disqualify any submission, without refund of any kind, which does not meet all submission requirements within the deadline.
